Trees!

Why should we worry?

Animals need somewhere to live

Across the world, forests are home to around 75% of bird species, 68% of mammal species, and 80% of amphibian species1. That's a lot, and if we destroy it, they aren't going to have anywhere to go, and many will just die off (a bad thing).

Everything is changing

Between 1970-2020, the average size of a land animal's population (globally) have decreased by ~69%2. That number will continue to accelerate unless we do something about it!

Trees are useful!

Trees do one simple thing, live. Like us, they breathe, taking in our CO2 and giving us that sweet oxygen, that we need to live. Globaly, trees take in ~130 BILLION tonnes of CO2 every year.
As we make more and more of it, we need more ways of managing it.

So?

Well it means one simple thing; if we are cutting down trees at a growing rate, and also producing CO2 at an increasing rate, one (or both) of those have to change. We are approaching a significant turning point where we are making more CO2 than we know what to do with, and in some way that needs balancing out, otherwise we could cook this world with everything that lives in it!

Learn!

The only people that will do something, are those that are educated, and informed. The more you know, the better! Stick to reliable sources, and always cross-check facts between sources, to ensure reliability.

Help out!

Consider public transport for shorter journeys. People who have a car very often depend on them for everything, but always remember that there is a second option. You could also grow your own vegetables, reducing both plastic waste, and commuting costs. Or Look after your own chickens for eggs!

Donate!

You can donate to causes like Just One Tree, our chosen charity for this fundraiser! But more on them later.

THEY'RE SO PRETTY

I mean come on, you don't want to be sat in this luscious rainforest? With the sound of the trees and nature all around you?
No?
Fine, suit yourself...

What is the real issue here?

Climate change

Climate change is exactly what it sounds like, a long-term change in the temperature/weather patterns (globally or reginonally)4. These changes can result in drastic consequences, such as an increase in hurricane activity, changes in The Monsoon season, or even how our seasons work. Have you also noticed British summers being...different in recent years? That's climate change!

CO2

The chemical that gets the headlines. Carbon Dioxide (CO2), is a greenhouse gas produced from industrial activities, such as burning fossil fuels like coal and petrol, or from agricultural industries like red meat farming.
This is the definition you will commonly hear, but what is a greenhouse gas? Well first, a greenhouse is a glass building, designed to trap heat for plant growth. A greenhouse gas, is a gas that sits in the upper atmosphere and traps heat from escaping earth.
The more gas you have, the more heat gets trapped within the earth, and this is where our issues arise.

A combination

Globally, we have released more and more CO2 every year, and while incentive is for this to slow down, our rate of production isn't slowing down enough.
As we produce more, the effects of climate change get more pronounced, as the globe heats up more and more. This causes changes in our understanding of weather patterns, makes predictions harder, and also destroys towns and cities. All from just being too warm
